Embarking on a voyage, aboard the Silja Symphony from Helsinki to Stockholm left a lasting impression for newcomers to cruising like myself. It was a chance to marvel at some of the breathtaking natural scenery in Northern Europe. Traveling through the Baltic Sea and navigating the Swedish Archipelago was truly enchanting, with its mix of crystal waters verdant landscapes and charming islands.
As we bid farewell to Helsinki and ventured into the expanse of the Baltic Sea, we were met by a sight to behold. The tranquil waters mirrored the sky’s vastness in a manner creating a peaceful ambiance that enveloped us. The deep blue sea beautifully contrasted with the sky especially as dusk approached painting hues of pink orange and gold across the horizon. Finland’s untamed coastline, dotted with cliffs and dense forests, gave our journey’s backdrop a unique feel.
The morning after, we were sailing through the Swedish Archipelago, a grouping of more than 30,000 islands and islets, as we got closer to Stockholm. These islands range in size from larger ones covered in forests and scattered with quaint cottages to uninhabited rocky patches. There are many different types of trees creating a canopy above the lush, green surroundings. The islands are often reflected to them by the pristine, placid waters that surround the archipelago. As our ship carefully navigated through this labyrinthine seascape, the feeling of exploration and discovery was enhanced by the narrow passages and water routes among the islands.
The journey between Helsinki and Stockholm offered more than just travel between two cities; it was an expedition through some of the natural landscapes in the area. The Baltic Sea waters the rugged Finnish shores, and the captivating Swedish Archipelago together create an picturesque voyage. This trip was a great way for someone like me who has never cruised before, as it offered a perfect balance of excitement, relaxation, and cultural immersion.
